Too many of us

This is a very interesting and also worrying video by National Geographic about the world's population. Have you ever stopped to think about this? It leads you to take some time to reflect on what kind of world we want to live in, and how we are contributing to create a better one for the oncoming generations. You can guess quite a lot just from the title.

7 BILLION

Some synonyms that may be useful:

population: inhabitants/ citizenry
increase: grow/ extend/ enlarge
to take up: occupy/ live in / reside
fill: take up

Jamie cooks summer

As most of you probably know, Jamie Oliver is an extremely successful British chef with a fresh and lively attitude towards food. His TV series are world-famous and he has written 15 cookery books. He has led a revolution in the way people eat in Britain, and has successfully accompanied thousands of parents in protest in an attempt to change school meals. Now food in many schools is better quality, fresher, seasonal, and much more healthier.

In this video he simply shows us his cooking ways for the British summer. Ideas for a picnic or a day out with friends, far from ham & cheese sandwiches. I hope you enjoy it.

He'll first tell you about how to make a gourgeous chilli con carne to take away, and I actually do think that his chilli con carne and guacamole are the best ever, so why don't you give them a try?

Then he will show you how to smoke fish using a bucket, a very handy idea for a beach day after going fishing!

Somebody that I used to know - a song

This song will help you revise and add up new expressions to your vocabulary on relationships. Listen to the song while you fill in the gaps, and then find their synonyms among the words and expressions provided in the column on the right. I hope you enjoy it!

Somebody that I used to know

by Gotye

First fill in the gaps

___________ I think of when we were together
Like when you said you felt so ______ you could die
I told myself  that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company
But that was love and it's __________ I still remember.

You can get addicted to a certain __________ of sadness
Like resignation to the end, always the end
So when we _______ that we could not make sense
Well you said that we would still be friends
But I'll admit that I was glad that it was ______

But you didn't have to __________
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
I don't even need your love, but you treat me like a _______
And that feels so rough
No, you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends _______  your records
And then change your number
Guess that I don't need that, though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know

Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now you're just somebody that I used to know

________________ I think of all the times you screwed me over
But had me believing it was always something that I'd done
But I don't wanna live that way
Reading into every word you say
You said that you could let it go
And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know-oh-oh

But you didn't have __________
Make it like it never happened and that we were nothing
(oh) I don't even need your love,
but you treat me like a ________ and that feels so rough
(oh)

No, you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends _______  your records
And then change your number
Guess that I don't need that, though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know

Then match these synonyms to the words you wrote in the gaps.

The Logical Song - Supertramp

This is the story of all of us, who go from the wonder of discovering the world through our own eyes, to being told by teachers, relatives and adults in general, that actually the world 'is' this or that way, and you'll be discarded as a radical, childish, illogical and liberal, to say the least, if you take another view of the world.
Do you relate to this song?

Listen to the Song and fill in the Gaps

The Logical Song by Supertramp

When I was young, it seemed that life was so __________,

a _________, it was beautiful, _________
And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily,

__________, ___________, watching me
But then they send me away to teach me how to be ___________,

__________, responsible, _________
And they showed me a world where I could be so ___________,

__________, intellectual, __________

There are times when all the world's ________
The questions run too ______ for _______________ (3 words) man
Won't you please, please tell me what we've __________
I know it sounds absurd but please tell me who I am

I said now, __________ what you say,

now we're calling you a ________,

a _________, fanatical, _________

Won't you sign up your name,

we'd like to feel you're ____________,

____________, presentable, ___________

But at night, when all the world's __________
The questions run so _________ for ________________ (3 words) man
Won't you please (Won't you tell me),

(You can tell me what) please tell me what we've _______ (Can you hear me?)
I know it ________ absurd, (Won't you help me) please tell me who I am,

who I am, who I am, who I am
But I'm thinking so _________
Did you call, one two three four
It's getting ___________

And this other version if you didn't manage to understand the words. It's a bit slower, so easier to catch the gaps.
